In 1985, on a family camping trip in New Hampshire, I met John. I was a 13 year old Canadian girl, he was a 14 year old American boy. We spent one innocent evening together (with only a kiss on a swing set) and exchanged mailing addresses. We were pen pals (remember there was no email back then) for about six years, swearing that one day we would be together and always signed the note with love. Our parents would allow about one long distance phone call a month. As we approached our twenties, real life started to take over and we slowly drifted apart and lost touch. We lived our own lives but never truly forgot one another. In 2008, I found him on the internet and called his house. I got the answering machine and just blurted out that it was me and left my number. I was honestly just looking for an old friend. When he called me back, he was so excited it was funny, we talked for hours. We kept in touch via calls and email for four years periodically until one fateful call in July 2012. We had both been separated from previous relationships for quite awhile at this point and he asked me to go down to visit for a week. No pressure. No expectations. Why not? I booked my flight from Pearson in Toronto into Logan Airport in Boston, for a week in August. That week was magical. It was an instant connection, instant comfort, instant love....it was destiny. We have talked about getting married for over a year, but of course, the big decision was to live in Canada or America (FYI...Canada won) He proposed last week, on facebook, for everyone to see.... Just goes to show...even 1000 km apart and 29 years later, true love always finds its way. |

Our wedding was on June 30, 2009 in Cuba, at the Melia Las Dunas. We had a beautiful outdoor ceremony...in the 35C heat. But it's ok, we jumped into the ocean and the pool afterward to cool off :) Thank you for helping me make my dress dreams come true (and saving me almost 600$! ) P.S. The dress is still perfect!
