I want to tell you the story of a very long, short courtship. Although my fiance and I met 7 years ago and had fallen in love almost instantly, we were kept apart for nearly 6 and a half years! When we finally reunited, he proposed a week later. Have I caught your attention? I hope so.
In my first year of undergrad, I was given 4 free tickets to the most dreary, unromantic, and near tortuous opera of all time, Wozzeck. I asked a friend to invite someone to come along with us, having run out of ideas of who would want to attend this German production. The show was held at what was then known as the Hummingbird Centre. My date, girl friend, and I were waiting in the lobby when the last member of our party walked through the door, Michael. Long, curly, dirty blond hair, round John Lennon glasses, a pashmina round his neck, and black-tie attire, he walked toward us. He was like a dream come true. My date looked like a slob and so did my friend, and so being in evening wear myself, it looked as if Michael belonged with me. For a brief moment, I thought, this is the guy for me...and then he started to talk.
At intermission, I asked him what he wanted to do with his life. He replied that he wanted to be an Orientalist. Having just read Edward Said's book "Orientalism" and being 18 years old, I took issue with this. We argued passionately as our helpless dates looked on. At the end of the evening, I left with my date feeling completely and utterly charmed by Michael yet also profoundly annoyed. He says that on the subway with his date, he wished that it was me who was by his side that night.
For years later, we would know exactly where the other was and what they were doing because of our mutual friends. These tales of adventure about each other stoked the flames of love. I always thought to myself that he should be with me. But, our friends would never allow us to get together. You see, our mutual friend who initially connected us, had an agenda. She had a crush on Michael. And so, whenever he was in town and I was as well, she would never actually invite us both to anything, not after the fireworks of our first encounter.
Michael went on to be an orientalist and says that because of it, he thought of me almost every single day. Then, this past August, at a conference, Michael walked through the door. I didn't recognize him at first, since he had cut those long curly blond locks. At first glance, I thought to myself, "Oh! A hot professor!". On the second glance, "The hot professor is checking me out!". On the third glance, I knew it was him. We spent the weekend hanging out but unable to get a moment alone.
A week later, Michael and I went out for dinner, but he had to leave on a plane to London, England the next day. I didn't know if I would ever see him again. He says that he had realized after that one date, that I was the girl he wanted to marry. And so, he started to make fun of me on facebook endlessly! I was so mad! I almost deleted him off of the thing. And then one day, he called me, and the next, and the next. He phoned and wrote to me every day and the occasional hand written note made its way to my mailbox as well. This went on for months.
Finally, on November 30, he came back to Toronto. It was that night that we first kissed and he said that he loved me. It felt as if I had always loved him from the moment we had met, I just couldn't understand it clearly. A week later he proposed and I said yes. Since then, we have announced our engagement to our parents and friends. They could not be happier for us. It's as if we were made for each other. I hope that you like our story <3!

I would just like to thank all the staff at Best For Bride in Etobikoke for helping my daughter and I find what we were looking for. I can't remember the ladies name that was helping us at the time but she was a tall woman and I believe her name began with a D. My daughter bought her wedding dress there and I bought my dress there as well. We were impressed with the wide selection of dresses that you had to chose from. I looked at so many dresses in other places as the mother of the bride and could not find anything that was suitable. My daughter and I exhausted every wedding shop in London Ontario and could not find the perfect dress. We went to a few places in Mississauga and Toronto and could not find the perfect dress until we visited Best For Bride and that is where she and I found the right dresses for us. Attached is a couple of photos of her day and the dresses we bought from you.
