I am surprise ruin-er. I predict the end of movies, I give away the endings of shows and books. I guess gifts from other people, and often ruin whatever surprise they have for me. I buy Christmas gifts months in advance and always end up giving them to the person before Christmas because I can't handle waiting for their reaction. My boyfriend of 4 years knew this. His engagement tactic was to catch me off guard in whatever way he could. He definitely didn't want me to see this coming. It was in December and we were shopping in the states at an outlet mall. We'd discussed engagements before, as quite a few of our friends had been getting engaged. I mentioned two things about engagments: having my nails done and having an elaborate engagement, but because I suggested it, he knew I would be on the look out for oddities. At this point, I didn't even know he had a ring! We finished shopping and were heading back to the car. I put my bags into the trunk and got into the car. He came around to my side and opened the door. Standing there, he pulled out a box and I started getting worked up and started crying. He opened the box and said "I wanted to get you something to remember today" and pulled out a necklace! I started swearing at him, telling him I thought it was a ring and telling him what a jerk he was. THEN in the middle of the parking lot, he got down on one knee and pulled out a SECOND, smaller box. This time with the ring. After I said yes, I looked down at my nails - horrendous condition. But Brian didn't miss a beat. He also pulled out a bottle of nail polish!! We are set to be married on August 13,2016. |
