My boyfriend and I really don't go out to eat much, except for special occasions, so I thought it was odd that he asked me out lunch that morning because he wanted to "de-stress from work" after hearing of a great Italian place from a co-worker.
Coincidentally my friend "recommended" the same Italian place a couple weeks prior because she had a "coupon that was soon to expire". My response "oh my gosh - what are the chances - my bf's co-worker recommended it, and you recommended it and during the same weekend - It is fate". Little did I know, he was working with my co-worker to get me to the Port Credit area (where we had our first kiss) but had to do so without looking suspicious, and he knew my frugal Asian ways would jump at the opportunity of a "coupon deal".
During lunch, he went to the restroom quite a few times, and kept checking his phone. He wore his contacts that Sunday morning, and looked more polished than usual. I asked him about it, and he said he just went to the gym. In hind-sight, I should have thought things were different that day, but hindsight bias is always 20/20.
After lunch, it was a beautiful day and he suggested we walk along the boardwalk. At the end of the boardwalk he takes my hand, and on bended knee says "I want to make sure I do this right and I should have done this long time ago" - and promises that he would spend the rest of his life making me happy, if I would like to spend it with him. I think my reaction says it all in the mini video. Turns out that my fiancé had been planning this for weeks, and was constantly going to the restroom to text his friend, who he had staked out with a camera to capture our romantic proposal. We then did a mini photo shoot on the spot to celebrate. Of course I couldn't wait to share the news with my friends and family (who gave their blessing to him months ago). It was a wonderful surprise - and the wedding planning has been a wonderful experience that has brought us even closer together.
