4:30am August 13 2011. Richard wakes me up to go on a hike. I ask why since its still 4:30am and he responds and says it would be nice to catch the sunrise. I didn't think twice of it because Richard is very adventurous and likes being spontaneous, so I reluctantly drag myself out the house. We go to Fremont Older in Cupertino, CA. The trail leads up a mountain and at the top there is a landing area with a bench. As I approach the top, I see rose petals on the ground. At that point I was thinking and said to Richard, "Oh how sweet! Someone got proposed to here last night!" I still had no idea it was all for me. The sun is just starting to rise and I'm trying to soak in the beautiful view. I look around and see a newspaper on the bench. I turn to Richard and say, "That's weird, someone left a newspaper." Richard walks over to the bench and tells me that it was today's newspaper and suggests that we read it. Still at this point I had no idea what was in store. Being still half awake and not observant, I honestly thought the newspaper was forgotten by a previous hiker. I agree to look through the paper and Richard hands me the datebook section in the San Francisco Chronicle. I still don't think anything was out of the ordinary since I rarely read the paper and only like reading about movies and TV shows. So I flip through the paper and see an ad of my dog Teddy and under the picture it says "Cynthia I love you Will you marry me? -Richard" I look up from the paper and Richard is holding a box with a ring. How could I say no to a man who woke up at 3:00am to run to find the nearest open store with the paper and run up a mountain in the dark to set this all up.
