DANCE STYLES

Acro (Acrobatic Arts)

Acro dance is the seamless combination of dance and acrobatics. Students learn to do movements such as cartwheels, headstands, handsprings and aerials. Training focuses on building flexibility and strength. Acro classes are offered to students ages 6 and up.

Tap (ADAPT syllabus)

Tap dance is a fun, rhythmical class focusing on using the dancer's shoes as a percussive instrument. Interested students can take their examinations through ADAPT (Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers)

Ballet (Royal Academy of Dance)

A technique based class for students 5 and up.

Ballet is the foundation for all other styles of dance. Emphasis is placed on correct execution of formalized steps, poise, and flow of patterns. As part of their ballet training, students in Grade 1 ballet and up will be introduced to character dance.

Optional ballet examinations are offered through the Royal Academy of Dance. Students interested in examples are required to take two classes per week and be entered at Miss Colleen's discretion.

Hip Hop

Hip Hop focuses on isolations of the body and strong sharp movements. Students ages 5 and up will learn choreography set to popular music. Students will explore floor work, break dancing and free-styling.

Jazz (Adapt syllabus)

Jazz dance incorporates technique, control, strength and flexibility Students are taught how to jump and turn with ease.

Modern/Contemporary

An expressive free movement style class. Modern was originally created as a rebillion against ballet. Dancers explore the use of breath, space, eye line and emotion all while dancing to a blend of percussion and popular music.

Musical Theatre

This class combines dance, drama and performance arts. Students are lead through drama games, role play and basic dance training.

Pointe

As an extension of student's regular ballet training, students may be invited to go en pointe. Students will begin by learning exercises at the barre and when safe to do so will progress to center work before executing more advanced steps. Students en pointe must take two classes per week.

Pointe Preparation

A technique and strengthening class to properly prepare students for pointe work.

This class must be taken in combination with a regular ballet class and is open to students 11 and up. Students will be only allowed to begin pointe training after developing the necessary technique and strength that pointe requires. This class will prepare students to safely progress to pointe, however as each student is different some students may need to stay in this class longer than others.


YOUNG DANCER AGES 22 MONTHS TO 4 YEARS

My First Dance Class

(MOMMY/DADDY AND ME MY FIRST DANCE CLASS)

A ballet inspired class for children 22 months-2.5 years of age. Parents attend class with their child to provide them with any additional support they may need. Throughout our full season we gradually work towards the young dancer independently completing class activities. Students learn basic dance movements such as jumping, stretching and galloping. This is a great class to socialize young children while having fun.

Kinder Ballet

A ballet class for children 3-4 years of age. Utilizing props children develop musicality, fine motor control and spatial awareness while maintaining a focusing on having fun and learning the basics of ballet technique.

Kinder Hip Hop

A fun and energetic hip hop class specifically designed for children 3-4 years of age. Children will develop coordination and musicality while dancing to popular music selections.


ADULT CLASSES

Adult Ballet

Used to dance? Always wanted to dance but never had the chance? This is your opportunity to feel like a prima ballerina. Following the form of a traditional ballet class, students will be guided through a set barre and center work including adage and allegro.

Adult Tap

Tap dance is a fun, rhythmical class focusing on using the dancers shoes as a percussive instrument. Adult students are welcome to use the ballet barre to aid in balance or take the class seated.
