Snow canceled plans for the Kumar family for the second weekend in a row in February of 2015. Vivek, Lori, Noah, and Sam spent another weekend putting on a synthetic green in their basement while the golf courses were under a foot of snow. Vivek announced that he would apply for a Florida license and look for a job in Florida. Because Lori’s parents, Howard and Mary, already lived in Sarasota, it made perfect sense to be closer to grandparents. Plus, the kids could further their passion for golf.
As luck would have it, HeartCare’s cardiology center needed a cardiologist in Sarasota and Bradenton, and the family moved here in 2016. Now, Dr. Kumar is able to practice cardiovascular medicine the same way he watched his dad practice as a solo practitioner of urology in Oil City, PA. In Pittsburgh, Dr. Kumar spent most of his days in the cath lab, where he became a highly skilled
interventionalist. With a private, solo practice, Dr. Kumar balances his vast skill set while focusing on each patient as someone important and special. He has hired a highly skilled staff who share his
philosophy in the office.
While Dr. Kumar’s golf game hasn’t really improved, Noah reached the national top 100 in junior golf while Sam is just getting into playing junior tournaments. Lori is either in the office or following the boys on the golf course.

Howard, a mini Cavapoo, was adopted by the Kumar family in March of 2021. Dr. Kumar and his staff at HeartCare Consultants were campaigning for an office dog for quite some time. Lori works in the office part-time and often consulted with her dad, Howard, on many occasions. So when Lori’s dad suddenly passed away in April of 2020, the family honored him by naming the new office dog, Howard.
Howard goes to work with Vivek and Lori and hangs out with the staff and patients. He has provided stress relief to the team and sweetness and compassion to many of the patients. Howard has become so popular at HeartCare that many patients ask for him. With his following, Howard is launching his Instagram Account, @Howard at HeartCare, to provide patient education and heart-healthy tips.
When not at the office, Howard can be found running zoomies, stealing golf balls from Noah and Sam, and picking up where his namesake left off by being Vivek’s best friend while exasperating Lori.
