North Haledon, NJ

North Haledon, New Jersey, is one of eight boroughs created from the remains of the former Manchester Township in 1898. The borough is known for its older, established neighborhoods with many homes built before World War II. The residential districts have a combination of houses, apartment buildings, duplexes, and more, reflecting the diverse population.

North Haledon's business district, which has recently undergone a streetscape improvement plan that widened sidewalks and seating areas, has been designed to imitate the atmosphere and style of a town square that you would find in European cities such as Paris or London. The city has several parks with different amenities, such as Goffle Park and Saddle River County Park.

  • Goffle Park has a playground, softball and soccer fields, a fishing area, and sleigh-riding hills for winter fun. It also underwent a multi-million dollar beautification project, which enhanced the park's natural beauty and added reinforcement to the walls along the water to protect local native plants.

  • Saddle River County Park is called a living oasis in the middle of suburbia, has a dog park, bike trails, and plenty of sitting areas that are perfect for feeding the ducks who live there. There is plenty of parking, so bring your family and friends and make use of one of the covered picnic areas and public barbecues.

Residents here are lucky to have a unique attraction called Abma's Farm, which is much more than the name would imply. On top of their Farmer's Market, which is open daily except for Sundays year-round, there are several greenhouses filled with lush, beautiful plant life that blooms throughout the seasons with eyepopping colors. Guests are invited to check out the farm's homegrown annuals, roses, Dutch tulips, Christmas poinsettias, and more.

There is sure to be something beautiful blooming at the farm year-round. There are also garden pots, accent pieces, pollinators, and more available, so if you've got problems with your home garden, you might stumble upon a solution while perusing the rows of greenery. Bring the whole family and the kids can enjoy the petting zoo, where they can get up close and personal with pigs, bunnies, alpacas, goats, and more. They even have pony rides from May through October, so this is surely one place you wouldn't want to miss.
