Boardrooms and meeting rooms.

By Glenside in Reading for clients across the UK.

Boardrooms of the future.

Office boardrooms and meetings rooms are places for creativity to flow and collaboration to bloom. Unlike boardrooms of the past, which were often formal settings exclusively for senior staff members, boardrooms are now often a space where different levels of staff can communicate. This has led to different design requirements, including the need for more comfortable, stylised furniture and advanced technology solutions.

We work with our clients to understand their requirements and ways of working. We can create formal meeting rooms that reflect the long-established history of a company, or are in keeping with the character of the premises while making spaces modern and stylish - reflecting your company's innovative values.

Working to purpose.

Concepts for a modern boardroom design are likely to vary from small conference room ideas. The process of design to fit-out will vary for different projects, depending on:

  • The purposes that the specific meeting space may be used for.
  • The assets and limitations of the given area.
  • The style objectives of the individual client’s business, in terms of both enhancing the work environment and creating positive visitor impressions.
  • The character of the premises in which the facility is located (contemporary or period, special features etc.) and how this can be used to our advantage.

Working to purpose.

For instance, concepts for a modern boardroom design might need to vary from small conference room ideas. The design of functioning areas, location of furniture, fittings and other key elements will depend on criteria such as:

  • Is the meeting space in question to be mainly used as a place for formal negotiation or informal interaction?
  • What technological equipment needs to be included?
  • How will the meeting room design ensure that these resources are located, discretely or otherwise, for convenient use?
  • What is the overall look and impression required for this specific area?
  • Are there any special features, such as an exceptional view from a picture window, which can be used to good purpose?

Meetings, your way.

One of the prominent differences from traditional boardroom design is that many companies require boardrooms to be multifunctional and able to fulfil differing communication requirements.

One method of building versatility into a space for meetings is by using modular furniture, such as a long boardroom table that can be split up into smaller sections. This allows the room to be repurposed for different functions, such as using the separated table sections for group workshops or removing them altogether to configure the room for a theatre-style seating arrangement.

A well-designed boardroom also needs to take into consideration the rise of agile and hybrid working, which could involve including features such a video conferencing technology and digital room booking systems to assist with time management and space organisation.

A room with a couch and a desk in it
November 6, 2024
In recent years, the design of office spaces has undergone a major transformation. Traditional cubicles have given way to open floor plans, encouraging collaboration and communication. But as open offices have become the norm, employees and employers alike have begun to recognize that this setup isn’t without its drawbacks. Striking the right balance between open and private spaces is essential for creating an office environment that fosters both productivity and well-being.

In today’s competitive business landscape, the design and functionality of your office space are more important than ever. Gone are the days when a simple desk and chair arrangement sufficed. Modern workplaces need to be more than just aesthetically pleasing—they need to be optimised for productivity, employee well-being, and overall efficiency. While the initial investment in a high-quality office fit-out may seem significant, the returns can far outweigh the costs. Here’s why it pays to design your workspace right: Boost Employee Productivity and Morale A well-designed office environment can significantly impact employee productivity and morale. Studies have shown that employees who work in well-lit, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed spaces are more likely to be engaged and productive. Features like ergonomic furniture, natural light, and designated collaboration areas can reduce fatigue, minimise distractions, and encourage creativity. Enhance Your Brand Image Whether you're a cutting-edge tech startup or an established law firm, the design of your workspace can influence how clients, partners, and potential employees perceive your business. A well thought out and executed office fit-out can communicate professionalism, innovation, and attention to detail. As well as this, office design can help express your company's character and values.
