A Message of Thanks and an Update

Hi Everyone! Due to the fact that we had to cancel the open house this year because of unforeseen circumstances, I wanted to update all of you on what we have accomplished since COVID at Critter Care Wildlife Society.

We have built two large raccoon nurseries, one for the small raccoons and one for the larger/injured raccoons. We named the nurseries Totem and Spirit. We completely tiled the nurseries from floor to ceiling, making them hygienic, and easier to clean, which greatly keeps the germs and diseases down.

We have tiled the skunk nursery and rabbit rooms from floor to ceiling. We have also tiled the Triage Centre from floor to ceiling, where the smaller animals are admitted. In total, we tiled 7,000 sq ft. Thanks, Mark Dyke from Keystone Interiors, you did a great job!

We built 10 new raccoon enclosures, with 24” high retaining walls and concrete floors; the previous enclosures had wood around the floor, and the constant cleaning would cause the wood to rot.

We put new siding on the Triage Centre and built a much larger food deck where all the food is prepped for the animals. A new cement retaining wall was also built so the rats cannot get in. We then added windows and ventilation above the cooking area. Another bathroom, complete with a shower for the many interns, was built.

We needed a container for our washers and dryers, so Mainroad Contracting donated one that came with electrical and insulation; they have been great supporters of Critter Care for years.

The outside of the container was painted by a youth group, and they did an amazing job!

To date, we have 27 interns from around the world. We have had 273 animal admissions, so we will hit 3000 or more before the end of the year. For the remainder of 2024, our projects will be to rebuild the skunk enclosures and one more raccoon enclosure.
