It is a Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) in Smile Design Dental Practice to conduct a tooth-by-tooth examination for our new patients and on a yearly basis. We not only help you to discover and uncover your dental issues but also update you yearly on your oral condition; making sure that any dental issues are detected and treated as early as possible.
What do we do during a tooth-by-tooth examination?
During the examination, we check your gums and the area between your teeth. We use an intraoral camera to take photographs of every tooth. The magnified vision of the individual tooth surface allows you and your dentist to see clearly your current oral condition.
We also have dental charting done periodically to help document our findings and update your dental records. Subsequently, our doctor will share with you these observations and propose a customized treatment plan.
Why do you need a tooth-by-tooth examination?
With a thorough oral examination, we want to make sure we do not miss any (hidden) problems. Issues detected are recorded and informed. We customized a treatment plan according to your dental issues, with options, fees, and duration that fit your time, budget and expectations.
Any potential dental issues that go undetected may lead to delayed treatment, and the condition may deteriorate over time, causing you more discomfort and potentially increasing the cost of treatment.

When do you need one?
We conduct this tooth-by-tooth examination on every new patient and existing patient on a yearly basis. This enables us to monitor your oral health. From the photographs and videos we take through the intraoral camera or dental microscope, we send a copy to you as a reference. These records are particularly important, especially when you relocate overseas and need them for future dental follow-ups.
The dental photographs also help us compare your condition from past visits with the current visit, determining any improvements or deterioration that may require treatment.
