Gem & Mineral Society

Our History

Started in 1985 by a group of local rock hounds, the Tehachapi Valley Rock and Mineral Society is an active 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to educating members and the local community about geology and lapidary arts. The club meets every fourth Thursday at the Senior Center in Downtown Tehachapi and often features guest speakers on how to find meteorites, the local geology, gems and fossils from the various snakes and reptiles in the area.

MISSION STATEMENT

The TVGMS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote the study of earth sciences with emphasis on collection or rocks, minerals, fossils, and gems. Popular interest in geology, mineralogy, paleontology, and related subjects. We sponsor lectures, classes, demonstrations, field trips and school visits to further education and interest both within TVGMS and the community at large. Our annual gem show exhibits rock, mineral, fossil, Jewelry and lapidary arts collections in order to share our hobby with the public.
