Job Readiness Programme

Job Readiness Programme

Labour Y’s Job Readiness Programme aims to help young people get ready for work. This includes engaging young people in education and training courses.

Growing up without a role model, some young adults have no adult, carer or guardian in their life to help them understand what getting a job is all about including, turning up on time, or first day etiquette. If you do not have anybody to teach you about how to present to an employer, how to write a CV or an application it can be difficult to get a job. Having a caring adult to drive you to work or interviews, and provide money for lunch is so important when you are applying for jobs for the first time.

Labour Y’s job readiness programme steps in to support all young people on pathways to employment. This includes:

  • CV and cover letter writing support
  • Nutrition and food support such as providing breakfast or lunch
  • Mock interviews to practise and build confidence
  • Transport and support for interviews
  • Assistance to travel to and from employment/education
  • Understanding appropriate hygiene/presentation methods for employment (e.g. how to present, how to iron a shirt, how to communicate with interviewers, management, workmates, and time management)
  • Navigating employment seeking websites and avenues
  • Continuing support for employers and employees within workplaces
  • Support with understanding your rights as an employee and how to understand and navigate award rates and contracts
  • Support with completing necessary forms (TFN, Driver’s License, Superannuation, Centrelink, Working with Children Check, Police Check)
  • Court support
  • Budget planning
  • Housing and rental support
  • Health and well-being support
