Why use sustainable packaging?

4 Brands leading the way with sustainable packaging solutions:
What is sustainable packaging?
Sustainable packaging
does exactly what it says on the tin- it improves sustainability. This means a compromise that meets present economic needs while not affecting the needs of future generations. To achieve this, packaging that is sustainable must have an increased lifecycle, moving away from single use and towards longer lasting packaging that reduces environment impact and ecological footprint. Look out for packaging that strays away from plastic or (better yet!) limits it completely, opting instead for materials that can be recycled, are biodegradable or re-used/returnable, use less resources and are sourced ethnically and locally. It’s also important to look at the bigger picture, understanding the products journey, from supply chain, marketing, use and what happens in the afterlife for the product- there's a lot to consider!
Is it cost effective?
There is a stigma that green alternatives are costly and that there is a compromise on the quality. The good news is that sustainable packaging has come a long way in terms of innovation and quality, and we now have access to a broader variety of sustainable options
within branding and packaging, from sourcing, material, process and even printing inks. With more suppliers investing in and offering sustainable options, it doesn't cost the earth to buy into greener alternatives as a specialist service, and as a bonus, potential customers will appreciate the eco-conscious decisions your company is making- this could even be the difference between leads becoming conversions.
4 brands using sustainable packaging:
Froosh is a natural juice company creating tasty smoothies and fruit juices to help us urban dwellers get our 5 a day. Froosh has developed their “Shorty”, a 150ml smoothie that is packed in an environmentally friendly paper can, with paper that is FSC-certified. Paper cans may not be as durable as their stronger counterparts, but sustainably sourcing their packaging is a great start!
Beautifully branded, Captain blankenship’s hair and skincare products are not only created with nature in mind but their packaging is inspired by it as well. Their packaging is 100% recycled ocean-bound plastic sourced from Envision, who are trying to prevent more plastic entering our oceans. Resin used to create the packaging is created from used plastic material which uses half the amount of resources that it takes to make your average joe plastic- they also give 1% of their annual sales to environmental charities!
Based in Norwich, Norfolk, artisan gin company Norfolk gin creates delicious handcrafted botanical bathtub gin created with local ingredients. To add to the artisan richness of the product, the gin is packaged in a lovely wade ceramic bottle featuring the companies branding, a great way to add luxuriousness to your product while creating packaging which you will most likely want to keep or re-use!

Concerned about the damaging impact plastic bottles have on our plant, CanO water sought to develop a packaging solution for their own spring water... the result, a resealable refillable can. Incorporating a resealable lid on their aluminium bottles, CanO encourages consumers to refill the can again and again after consumption- great for on the go!
