Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit
Our Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit is an 11-bed residential crisis stabilization / ambulatory detox program offering an alternative to, or diversion from, acute inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. This program’s multidisciplinary approach offers rapid access for brief intervention through psychiatry, nursing, therapy, psychoeducation, peer recovery supports, a structured milieu, and comprehensive care coordination.

Jail Diversion Services staff collaborate with partners to identify persons with serious mental illness being placed in correctional custody for minor offenses, and offer alternative supporting and clinical services.

Restoration Services are provided to individuals found by the Court as “Incompetent to Stand Trial” and may include education and treatment delivered in either community or correctional settings. The goal is to assist individuals with regaining psychiatric stability which allows them to participate with their attorney in their criminal defense.

Forensic Discharge Planning
HNNCSB partners with both Hampton and Newport News General District Courts as part of separate dockets. BHDs are non-adversarial approaches by the judicial system, treatment providers, and other stakeholders addressing the needs of individuals with serious mental illness who have become involved in the criminal justice system. Through on-going support and supervision, the Court and Team assist individuals as they engage in services and address challenges to prevent further penetration within the criminal justice system.

CARE: Community Assistance Response
The Community Assistance Response (CARE) model provides an alternative response to law enforcement for individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis. CARE partners the HNNCSB with Newport News Fire (NNFD) and Police Departments (NNPD) by pairing a CSB clinician and a medic, in coordination with police, to respond, and as appropriate, make other referrals and service linkages.
