Biography
Christopher Maugans M.D. is a hand an upper extremity surgeon. He is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hand and upper extremity injuries.
Dr. Maugans grew up in Wichita, Kansas. For Dr. Maugans, the choice to become an orthopaedic hand surgeon was very carefully planned and thought out. He recognized that becoming a surgeon would provide an amazing career, but he also wanted to make sure the specialty he chose was something he could do day-in and day-out for many years. Orthopedic surgery is that passion for him – and observing his first hand surgery intrigued him. The intricate nature and fine details of the human hand, as well as being able to restore function to a patient, solidified his decision to sub-specialize in hand surgery. Often times, people don’t realize how important the hands and fingers are for all the tasks and activities accomplished throughout a given day – until one is presented with an injury or problem which hampers those tasks and activities. Dr. Maugans derives joy from helping patients regain function and resume their desired activities.
Dr. Maugans received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting degree from University of Kansas. After obtaining his medical degree from The University of Kansas School of Medicine, he completed residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He obtained his fellowship in Hand and Upper Extremity from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Dr. Maugans participated in and authored scientific research articles which have been presented at both regional and national academic conferences.
