Stephen Cohen, aka 'Steve', is a revered figure in television journalism and marked his 50th year as a news chief in 2023.
Steve's unwavering commitment to journalistic integrity inspires hope for a press that values fairness and truth. Throughout his career, he has consistently championed the principles of independent and balanced reporting.
His distinguished career includes key roles across major markets, such as WCBS, KCBS, KCOP, KUSI, WNAC, and WXYZ.
Steve's leadership journey saw him as VP/President/GM at WCAU, KTVX, and WGRZ, and he currently offers media insight for his MediaWiseGuy Consulting, offering comprehensive guidance on crisis
management, speech writing, and group dynamics.
His media work through the years has included establishing unique programming and content distribution in China, Europe and the Mid East. During the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba, he was the international spokesperson for the hotel and tourism sector , and he has represented many high profile clients in need of crisis management expertise.
As Salt lake prepared for the Winter Olympics in 2002, Steve was the President and GM of Utah 4 and became the Chairman and President of the Utah Winter Games, which trained volunteers for the games, and organized events at the 13 venues for Utah citizens to participate. In all, the Winter Games trained and offered 15,000 volunteers for the Olympic experience.
Steve was news director for KUSI-TV in San Diego for over 20 years. He was also the founding executive producer of the Courtroom Television Network and was co-creator and CEO of the American Transportation Network.
Educated at Penn State and the University of Michigan, Steve's academic achievements include degrees in European History, Journalism, and Education.
Reflecting on the evolution of media, he emphasizes a return to fact-based reporting and honest dialogue. His memoir, "The Newslife: From Arkansas to Aruba," captures his remarkable journey and is capped by his reflective memoir, “50 years in a Newsroom; A Eulogy”.
Steve will continue to keep the Statue of Responsibility as one of his top priorities and works diligently for it to happen. With his leadership and the teamwork of the whole board, we are confident it will.
