World Health Organization, March 25, 2014
In new estimates, the
WHO reports that in 2012 around 7 million people died - one in eight of total global deaths – as a result of (indoor and outdoor) air pollution exposure. This finding more than doubles previous estimates and confirms that air pollution is now the world’s largest single environmental health risk. Reducing air pollution could save millions of lives.
In particular, the new data reveal a stronger link between both indoor and outdoor air pollution exposure and cardiovascular diseases, such as strokes and ischaemic heart disease, as well as between air pollution and cancer. This is in addition to air pollution’s role in the development of respiratory diseases, including acute respiratory infections and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.
World Health Organization 2009 report
Guidelines for Indoor Air Quality—Dampness and Mould
We Contacted the World Health Organization
After the World Health Organization issued their 2009 report, we contacted the WHO and told them that their report was missing some important publications relating to the health effects of molds and mycotoxins. They invited us to submit a list of publications that were not included in their report.
We completed an extensive search and prepared a list of documents and reports.
We cross-checked our list against the references included in the 2009 WHO "Guidelines for Indoor Air Quality--Dampness and Mould."
We also took another step and cross-checked our list against the references included in the 2004 IOM report on "Damp Indoor Spaces and Health" to ensure we were not duplicating their sources.
Our response to the World Health Organization has been sent to hundreds of elected officials and medical organizations throughout the country. It was also sent to hundreds of teaching hospitals and medical libraries.
