Online reviews have never been so important, especially for the real estate industry – it’s a highly competitive market! Did you know that over 90% of consumers read online reviews before choosing a real estate agent? Unfortunately, people tend to write negative comments, with only 6% of people leaving positive reviews! This can be an issue for agencies with a property management department, as it’s tenants who usually leave bad reviews – this can potentially harm a business’s online reputation.

What is Google My Business? Google My Business is a tool from Google that lets businesses create a short profile displaying their names, phone numbers, address, operating hours and official website completely free of cost. You can also add relevant search results like maps and locations using other apps provided by Google. The first step when building an SEO strategy is to check the Google My Business (GMB) listing for your company and claim the ownership rights. When someone looks up your business on Google the GMB information shows up at the top and it is the one most users view first. Why You Need Google My Business 1. Prominent Search Results Like the details above show, the Google My Business results show up on the top of a Google search. The listing helps your company stand out and links people to the address even if you do not have a website. Your business will appear in brand name searches and the prominent position is guaranteed. The competition in the local area can affect whether or not your business will be the top result in its category. Reviews and verifications by other users help improve the standing of the Google My Business listing. Getting into the top 3 slots is an achievement in itself as it will drive people to your store. 2. Local and Mobile Search Google My Business also affects any searches made in the physical vicinity of the business. If someone looks up for your business type with the location added in the query then they can find your business in the results. For example someone looking up ‘café Scottsdale’ before their visit to find a place to have coffee while they are there. According to the statistics, 46% of the Google searches are completed locally and the top 3 GMB results appear almost 93% of the time. If you want to improve these results then a Google My Business listing is necessary. Local searches are often carried out on mobiles and it is beating web search for most businesses industries. Some search types such as food and drink are usually completed on mobile phones. To increase mobile visibility it is important to have Google My Business because they are the results that dominate on smartphone devices.

One of the most important things to consider while building and maintaining your web presence is the local SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of your website. SEO is essential in ensuring that your website ranks higher on the relevant search engine pages, as the search engines keep updating their algorithms in order to give users the most relevant search results. Accordingly, local SEO means that search engines in your locality rank your website (and hence the business) making it more relevant for the average user in your area. Unfortunately, not many business startups consider the impact of local SEO and therefore don’t reap the benefits that this vital marketing tool offers.

The importance of reviews cannot be neglected. Put yourself in the shoes of your customers. Whenever you need any service or are thinking of collaborating with a new company, what is the first thing that you do? You endeavor to find out more about them, their reputation and their quality of service. Your customers are no different. Before acquiring any service or purchasing a product from a business they have not associated with before, they look for reviews. They want to see the feedback of your previous customers to gauge your reliability and credibility. What makes reviews so important? Ecommerce and online businesses have made things quite feasible. There is a lot that can be accomplished with the help of a mere few clicks. However, it has also increased the incidence of scams and frauds. Thus, people have gotten wary. They seek reassurance that they are not being scammed and the business they are investing in or the store they are purchasing their products from are worthy of their trust. They need to know why they should consider you instead of your competition. This is where your customer reviews will play a pivotal role in attracting potential customers your way. People tend to trust what they hear about business instead of believing what they hear from you. Negative reviews can hamper the growth of your business to a large extent. While it is true that negative reviews cannot be eradicated completely when you run a business, you need to make sure that they do not outnumber your positive feedback.

You can use Google My Business (GMB for short) to decide what people see first when they look up your company online. Essentially, GMB is a business card for a company showing all their contact information on the top when it is searched on Google. GMB provides the tools for businesses to edit the information and engage with customers using web, mobile or tablet for their search. It is completely free and lets a business update their business hours, upload flattering photographs and restaurants can add a menu too. It also shows customer reviews and highlights latest updates which makes it a crucial asset for increasing online visibility for a business and allowing potential consumers to find you. Setting up a Google My Business listing You can easily add your business to Google's records by going online. It is the first step towards optimising your business's website. There is a lot of competition online now and you should be prepared to stand out. To drive new customers to your doors it is important that you claim the online listing for your company. It would also be beneficial if you can ask your loyal customers to leave positive reviews on the listing. This will improve the ranking for your business’s listing and move it higher on the search results. Once the initial steps have been taken, the next order of business is to consistently post content online so your customers are engaged. GMB allows you to post deals, events and promotions on the page as well as any other company-related news. The more time you spend improving the interface, the better it will be for the local SEO of your business. The improved visibility that Google provides makes the business stand out and the results show up on the web and mobile with local SEO. Searching on a mobile device shows organic results below the listing which means users have to scroll down. Often the top three results appear on the page which provides huge traffic opportunities for your business.

Say hello to Matt Wilson, New Business Development Manager at Cube Online. Matt spends most of his working day talking on the phone – he chats to our customers about how Cube Online can support their businesses. And, although it wasn’t easy, Matt stepped away from his phone for ten minutes to discuss his role and share some digital marketing tips for businesses. In a nutshell, describe your role at Cube Online. I make digital marketing easy for customers, helping them to grow their businesses using our online tools and advice. What do you like about your role? I work with a great team of people who are fun, hardworking and passionate about what they do. We all work well together, and go the extra mile to provide awesome customer service and support. What does a typical working day look like for you? I get up super early, so I can get a head start on my day and either head to the office or go to the gym. If I am in the office early, one of the first things I do is organise my appointments and check that my team is prepared. I spend most of the day talking to our customers on the phone and working with the team to support their needs. When I am finished work, I like to watch television and then head to bed at about 9:30pm so I can do it all again the next day. What digital marketing advice can you give to business owners who may not be tech savvy? It’s much simpler than it appears, and you don’t need to worry – that’s what we are here for. We make it easy for you and provide loads of support for business owners who may not understand the ins and outs of digital marketing. I suggest asking lots of questions so you’re sure about what you’re paying for. Understand the products or services being offered and get involved in the process. In addition to Cube Online’s services, what other marketing activities can businesses do to strengthen their online position? I think it’s a great idea to write blogs about your business – it supports your brand’s messages and can boost your SEO. In addition, think about the social media pages your audiences are most likely visit, such as Facebook or Instagram, and then set-up these pages so you can post relevant and regular content. What’s something that people would be surprised to learn about you? I love maths! I’ve always been interested in numbers and did well in it at school. That’s why I went on to study accounting and finance at university. What free online tools do you use to help with your working day? I like to use Google Alerts. The information I am looking for goes straight into my inbox and it’s effortless and easy to use. When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? An architect. But, I soon found out that I wasn’t very good at drawing so never pursued it. Want to know how Cube Online can help boost your business’s online presence?
