Comprehensive General Dentistry

Jaw bones, gums, teeth, lips and salivary glands work together to show facial expressions, speak, eat, start digestion, and provide cosmetic appeal.  To ensure we help you maintain these functions well, we are comprehensive in our exams, x-rays and photography.  We believe that high quality, thorough diagnosis and treatment will help you maintain your teeth for a lifetime. Should any of your treatment be best performed by a specialist, we will help you get scheduled with specialist providers who treat our patients the same way we do.

We utilize all digital x-rays and modern technologies to ensure your care is personalized to your situation.  This includes individualized oral hygiene instructions, thorough cleanings, and time with our doctors at each exam.

Excellent dental care begins with open communication. We promise to be transparent with you about any problems that may require further dental treatment and our treatment recommendations. Working together, we can achieve a true partnership with one common goal--keeping your smile beautiful and your teeth, gums, and jaw healthy!

 Kids Care

Our doctors are passionate about ensuring children have positive experiences in the dental office.  We continue to have countless patients who have great experiences as kids.  These experiences have allowed them to have positive feelings towards the care they receive and grow up without a fear of the dentist.

We follow recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and like to see your child when they have their first tooth come in.  This appointment can be scheduled at the same as a caregiver's or parent's cleaning and takes just a few minutes.

Cavity prevention is a large port of what we do in our office.  We offer individualized home-care instructions tailored to your child's needs, dental sealants to prevent cavities on biting surfaces, and fluoride treatments.

Our doctors meticulously watch each child for eruption patterns and make referrals to orthodontists in the area when your child needs orthodontic care.

Fillings, Crowns, Bridges

We want our work to stand out and give you confidence as you chew, smile, and talk.  Our doctors spend extensive time in hands-on clinical education courses, learning new as well as tried-and-true methods to restore teeth.
As an office, we aim to use tooth-colored restorations only, not metal.  Staying abreast of new technologies allows our doctors to place restorative materials in a way that can ensure their restorations last as long as possible.

Snoring and Sleep Apnea

"Knowing the difference between snoring and sleep apnea  is key in determining proper treatment. Snoring is the result of tissues in the throat relaxing enough that they partially block the airway and vibrate, creating a sound. Depending on an individual’s anatomy and other lifestyle factors such as alcohol consumption and body weight, the sound of the vibration can be louder or softer.  Loud frequent snoring is one of the indicators of sleep apnea, which is a chronic condition characterized by pauses in breathing or shallow breaths during sleep. When people with sleep apnea fall asleep, they can stop breathing for 10 seconds or more, even up to a minute or more. Both conditions can be caused or made worse by obesity, large tongue and tonsils, aging and head and neck shape" (American Sleep Apnea Association - sleepapnea.org).

These two conditions are known to be present in a large number of our population. Working in conjunction with your physician, we aim to help find dental appliances that will be comfortable, functional, and will give you the health benefits you deserve.

Cleanings and Periodontal Treatments

Dental health (hygiene) visits are the foundation of everything we do here.  We believe strongly that healthy support structures around teeth (gums, jaw bone, and skin) allow our work to last longer and will help to reduce your decay risk.  We customize hygiene plans and home-care instructions for every patient we meet so we can help all patients maintain their teeth for a lifetime.

In addition, we follow a strict, comprehensive examination process that includes x-rays, and periodontal charting to ensure we screen and diagnose gum disease in its early stages.

Sedation Dentistry

We strive to help you have positive experiences in the office. We offer each patient the opportunity to do the work they need with some level of sedation, if they desire.  If you worry and stress about being in the office, suffer from dental anxiety, have sensitive teeth, or stress about the sights, sounds, and smells of dentistry, then sedation dentistry might be for you.

We offer several sedation options in our office and will work to find a method of sedation that fits you.  It may mean just nitrous oxide (laughing gas), nitrous oxide in combination with an oral medication, or IV sedation.

Our doctors focus on your needs.  Should you need IV sedation, we bring in trained anesthesiologists to sedate and watch over you while our doctors work on your teeth.  This teamwork allows you to be well cared for and manged by an anesthesiologist while also getting excellent care from our dentists.

Invisalign
Orthodontics

Orthodontics is the moving of teeth to a more favorable location.  We work closely with orthodontists in our area to help all the patients we see have teeth function in their best location.

Thanks to modern advances, we are also now able to fabricate orthodontic aligners and offer them in our office.  These aligners are clear retainers that cover the entire tooth.  Each retainer can be used to make small adjustments to the location of teeth, and when several retainers are used in sequence we are able to orthodontically move teeth to a more optimal location. This advance has allowed thousands to move teeth without the hassle of conventional braces with brackets.

 Root Canals

In the center of our teeth and roots is an area that has the nerves and blood for our teeth (called the dental pulp).  Occasionally, these spaces become infected or damaged through trauma, autoimmune reactions, or infection.  When this occurs root canal treatment is a procedure used to relieve dental pain and preserve the tooth. During treatment our dentists carefully remove the infected or damaged pulp tissue, then disinfect, shape, and fill these spaces with restorative material.  Once completed, a crown is typically made for the tooth to ensure the tooth remains functional without breaking.

Clenching, Grinding, TMJ, & TMD

Tempormandibular Joint Disorders (TMD) are a grouping of disorders that involve jaw joints.  These can cause intense pain and can affect chewing, speaking, daily function, and can cause one's jaw to lock.

Clenching and grinding our teeth can cause inflammation in our Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and other muscles.  This inflammation can cause intense pain, headaches, tooth pain, and make chewing and speaking difficult.

At Oak Hills Dentistry, we are here to help.  We fabricate appliances and discuss other methods to help you eliminate pain and enable you to function normally.  We also work in conjunction with trusted specialists who can help you decrease pain, and improve the function of your jaw.

Implants, Grafting, and Extractions

Fortunately we now have advances in technology that allow us to replace a single missing tooth or several missing teeth in a way that does not need to be anchored to other teeth.  Dental implants are titanium root replacements that are placed into your jaw bone after an extraction.  At Oak Hills Dentistry, our doctors are trained to remove diseased or broken teeth, grow bone where it is needed (a process called grafting), and place dental implants.  When a tooth is removed, an implant can sometimes be placed the same day.  After 3-6 months of healing and ensuring the implant is firmly anchored inside your jaw, a tooth restoration can be placed.

Dentures & Implant Retained Restorations

In some cases, teeth are not able to be saved and are best removed for the health of the patient.  We offer consultations to help you decide which options best meets your budget and needs.  We aim to keep you with a functional denture in the interim so you have teeth to function with during the process.

We offer excellent conventional denture work, and we work with talented surgeons to offer implant-retained denture options.  Implant procedures and technologies change and improve constantly.  Our doctors stay up with these advances.  When implants and dentures are combined, they can offer our patients up to 90% of their chewing forces back.
