Introduction

Pawsitivity's goal of "Rescuing dogs to rescue people" starts with finding the right candidate dog--we have found that about 1 in 1000 dogs is appropriate for service dog work. We visit shelters and homes across the United States to find the right dog that will pass all our rigorous temperament tests, plus be in the right parameters of age, breed, and size. We individually drive each dog up to Minnesota, rehabilitate them, and train them to six to twelve months. Twice a year, we open up for pre-applications (sign up here to be notified when we open up for pre-applications). We usually receive about 200 applications for each dog, and we try to carefully select the family for that particular dog, to ensure that the handler-dog team will be a successful one. Each family is expected to come up with half the fee of $39,000 (we fundraise the other half). Finally, our team works closely to ensure that every dollar is accounted for and then provides reports back to our donors. Check out the pages below to learn about our approach and the solutions we find.
