    • How often do I need to get my filters cleaned?

It will depend on what the manufacturer requires or recommends and will also depend on how your equipment is being used (highway driving differs hugely from city driving).

    • Are there particular spec’ing decisions or preventive maintenance practices that will help to maximize the intervals between active regens?

Regular engine maintenance is largely the biggest factor in ensuring the best performance from the DPF.   Restriction from dirty air filters, worn components etc are all factors that will increase soot loading of the DPF.   Low-ash engine oils are always a recommendation as they lower the residual ash deposit in the DPF through the regen process.   There are some newer products on the market today that are known as FBC (Fuel Borne Catalyst) that significantly improve engine combustion and lower soot loading of the DPF.

    • Drivers who continually delay an active regen will eventually find themselves at the controls of a de-rated engine. What kind of damage could such delays cause to the DPF itself?

Delaying regen is never a good idea.  The results typically are sustained higher back pressure.  This will cause accelerated wear on the turbo seals, valves and increase the risk of fracturing/cracking in the DPF filter.    Sustained high levels of soot loading will also increase the risk of uncontrolled regen or DPF melt-down which will obviously destroy the DPF.

    • DPF service life can be limited by coolant and oil leaks, failing fuel injectors, and even dust in an air intake. Which upstream issues tend to represent the most common challenges when it comes to the life of today’s DPFs? Where are the first places a technician should look if a unit is recording an unusually high frequency of active regens?

All of the above.   Primarily we see oil leaks poisoning and deactivating the precious metal coatings of the DOC.  This then reduces the DOC’s ability to convert gases and the DPF’s ability to regenerate the soot

into ash, thus driving up the need for active regens.

    • What is the best way to determine the proper cleaning intervals for a DPF, given the many operational factors that come into play?

Many factors at play here as you say.   Drivers in general are familiar with regular periodic replacement of their air filters, oil filters etc.  Unfortunately it is accepted practice in the industry that you wait until you get warning lights on the dashboard before servicing the DPF.    We would highly recommend operators review the work cycle of their vehicle (City Truck vs Highway Truck) and schedule DPF cleaning into the preventative maintenance schedule.

    • What does an effective cleaning process include? And will a properly cleaned DPF perform as well as a brand new model – or will some performance be lost?

The typical cycling of regens will be continuously leaving an ash residue in the filter.   This ash mixed with the heat and moisture from the exhaust will bake that ash into the filter.   While traditional blast and bake methods of cleaning are effective at removing some of this material, it can often become heavily impacted if the filter has not been cleaned regularly.   Through extensive research and experience we have found that ultrasonic technology combined with a pneumatic aqueous flush followed by kiln drying is the most effective way as restoring the DPF to 98% of its original condition.

    • Is there a case to be made for cleaning a DPF more frequently as a preventive measure? Would it extend the unit’s overall life or increase effectiveness while in service?

Yes, see answer above.   We believe that regular cleaning and servicing of the DPF filter does extend the overall life of the filter, will reduce the risk of filter failure and will lower the risk of other engine component failure as a result of lower overall back pressure.

    • What does a thorough DPF inspection process include? What are some of the steps that can help ensure components will perform as they should?

We believe a thorough DPF inspection involves a visual inspection, flow test, pin test and light test to ensure DPF filter integrity and that the filter has been returned as close as possible to its original factory condition.

    • How much does it cost?

      We offer 3 services:

    • Why is the restoration of the filter more expensive than the standard service?

With our Gold Restoration Service, your DPF will go through an extra step - what is known as the ultrasonic step.

The Gold Service takes more time than a traditional clean (blast and bake) and it is well worth paying the extra because it restores your filter to like new condition.

      Remember...if we can't clean it - you don't pay!

    • Do you guarantee your work?

If we cannot clean your DPF filter, you do not pay.

We have a 1 year warranty guarantee on our Gold Restoration Service.

Silver Services comes with a 6 month warranty

Bronze Services comes with a 3 month warranty

    • How long does the ultrasonic restoration last for?

It should last as long as a new DPF filter
