Surgery

What kind of surgeries do we perform?

We are equipped and skilled in doing various kinds of surgeries, from the most basic spaying and neutering procedures, laceration repairs, bite wounds, to cancerous mass removals, emergency gastric dilation Volvulos (GDV), etc... Prior to any surgery, we will thoroughly examine your pet and make the best medical recommendations.

How safe is anesthesia?

At Pasadena Pets Veterinary Hospital we use the latest monitoring equipment to help monitor multiple parameters such as heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, ECG and Oxygenation. Every patient at Pasadena Pets Veterinary Hospital gets an intravenous (IV) catheter and is given IV fluids to support the pet under anesthesia and help with blood pressure and blood perfusion.

Is blood testing prior to surgery mandatory?

No. We do not require that pets get a blood test prior to undergoing the surgery. However, we strongly suggest that some blood testing be done to help us assess your pets health risks (possibility of kidney or liver issues, etc...). Its a great practice to do blood testing prior to the actual surgical procedure since it helps us determine the best anesthesia medications for your pet.

What about pain and pain control?

We at Pasadena Pets Veterinary Hospital take pain control very seriously. We want to make sure that every pet under our care will be as comfortable as possible. To that extent, we provide our patients with pre-medications that contain powerful pain control substances before the surgery is initiated. We also provide pain control medications after the actual surgery.

What kind of suture material do you use and will my pet have stitches?

When we perform surgeries, we make sure to double and triple the incision wound to make sure it does not come undone. The materials we use are highly expensive self dissolvable, trade brand sutures that have minimal chance for reactions with the body. In some instances, besides the self dissolvable sutures, we must use skin suture for better results. These suture usually removed in 10-14 days free of charge.

What about follow up and how much does it cost?

At Pasadena Pets Veterinary Hospital we are committed to providing top service and keep working with a client and their beloved pet. Every client will receive a courtesy follow up phone call a day after the surgery. We encourage clients to keep communicating with us after surgery to let us know about their pet's progress. If there is ever a doubt in the owner's mind about anything, we prefer to see that pet back at our hospital ASAP and free of charge. If we placed non-dissolvable stitching, we will remove it at 10-14 days free of charge.

Mass Removal

Large skin mass (before)

Mass removed (after)

3 weeks post surgery

Cryosurgery

Cryosurgery allows us to deal with smaller masses without the needs of conventional surgery or anesthesia. Cryosurgery is an outpatient procedure and therefore decreases the risks of normal surgical complications especially when working with older pets that may have liver, kidney or heart ailments and can not withstand anesthesia.
